Jeff Gordon’s Camaro for a Cure

Jeff Gordon’s Camaro for a Cure

I Entered – Fingers Crossed

Worldwide, 300,000 families each year hear the words: Your child has cancer. Every day in the United States more than 40 kids are diagnosed with cancer. Two-thirds of children who are treated for cancer will suffer long-term effects from their treatment, including loss of hearing and sight, heart disease, secondary cancers, cognitive disabilities, infertility and more. But you can offer these families hope by investing in childhood cancer research with Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation.

Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation has granted more than $25 million to fund innovations that improve patients’ quality of life, treatment programs that increase survivorship, and medical research dedicated to finding a cure for the No. 1 cause of death by disease for kids. The funds granted by JGCF are made possible by the generosity of donors who support fundraisers such as Camaro For A Cure.

You can help this worthy cause by purchasing a ticket to win Jeff Gordon’s Personal Corvette!

Jeff Gordon Drives Out Whooping Cough

Famed NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon is pursuing a different sort of goal in his off-season – raising awareness about whooping cough.

Gordon, who has two children ages 3 and 6, said staying healthy is a big priority for his entire family.

“With kids it’s just germs everywhere, we’re kind of germ-freaks you know taking shoes off when we walk in the door, washing hands, probably overdoing it and you know, covering your mouth when you cough,” Gordon told FoxNews.com.

However, Gordon said it wasn’t until he joined the Sounds of Pertussis campaign, a national education program from March of Dimes and Sanofi Pasteur, that he realized he might unintentionally be putting his children at risk for pertussis, or whooping cough – a highly contagious and often serious disease.

“That’s what got me interested in becoming involved, is because as a parent I didn’t know that I was putting them at risk because I needed the adult booster,” Gordon said. “…Everybody (says), ‘Oh I’ve heard of whooping cough,’ but…they don’t realize that you have to prevent it from continuing to spread.”

One of the goals of this year’s Sounds of Pertussis campaign is to educate adults on the importance of getting an adult tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination. While most infants receive the vaccine at around 2 months old, the effects wear off after five to 10 years.

Without a booster, parents run the risk of contracting the disease and passing it to un-vaccinated infants – for whom it can be deadly.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the United States is experiencing one of the largest outbreaks of pertussis in approximately 50 years, with more than 41,000 cases and 18 deaths reported in 2012.

“Eighty percent of the time…these young infants are getting it from family members so it’s really about preventative (efforts),” Gordon said. “Prior to the baby being born, family members, when they come to the hospital, when they come to the home to visit, you know they need to make sure they’re protected.”

Gordon said seeing a video of a child with whooping cough on the Sounds of Pertussis website made him even more determined to spread awareness of the disease – and the importance of the adult vaccine.

“(The vaccine) is quick and over in a hurry and then the benefits are fantastic, and especially if you click on the video and hear that young baby with that whooping cough you’ll never forget that and you’ll realize, I cannot allow myself to bring this into our family,” Gordon said.

Gordon said he feels lucky that his children have been healthy – and that in addition to getting the Tdap vaccine, he and his wife make sure their children eat healthy and nutritiously at home.

“Our kids are great about eating vegetables and fish and we don’t go to fast food restaurants, we really try to eat healthy,” Gordon said. “We make the meals a family event where every night we’re sitting at the table, eating together, talking.”

While Gordon said it’s been tougher to stay in racing shape since he became a father, his children are also a big motivating factor for him.

“It’s definitely more challenging because you don’t have as much time, but at the same time they keep me very active and running around, so I look at it now as, how I set an example for them?” Gordon said.

New Smartphone App allows supporters and donors to stay connected with the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation on a new level. Charlotte, N.C., – Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation (JGCF) is proud to announce the availability of its new smartphone app. The app, made possible by the talented team at Startal, will allow users to keep up with the foundation’s news and happenings from the palm of their hand. Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation is one of the first not-for-profit organizations to offer such a unique experience to its constituents, and the foundation works to reach the day when no child will face the uncertainty of cancer and that successful treatments will not result in negative, long-term effects.

“This app will allow us to connect with our supporters in a whole new way,” said Gordon. “We look forward to encouraging people everywhere to take notice of an issue that has been overlooked far too long. Our hope is this app will inspire individuals while driving awareness to our mission.”

The new app will feature foundation news, links to JGCF social media channels to help users stay connected on an easy to use platform and allow individuals to make online donations via their phones at any time. The app will also feature Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation wallpapers that users can download to their smartphones.

The app was provided by Startal, a mobile media and commerce portal solution connecting brands to consumer members worldwide on smartphones, tablets and other devices through one centralized application (app).

“Startal is privileged to design and build a mobile application to bring childhood cancer news and information to supporters, offer the ability to donate to research and quality of life programs and grow awareness and support among a broader audience. Donating our development and service time is a commitment we will continue to honor," said Lonnie Boutte, Vice President of Business Development.

Studies show that over 50% of Americans have smartphones and by 2014 65% of all web traffic will be done via smartphones.

Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation aims to kick cancer out of every childhood

Charlotte, N.C. – Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation and Kick-It will be teaming up on the kickball field by challenging supporters to kick cancer out of every childhood once and for all.

Kick-It is a national grassroots fundraising game that was started by Quinn Clarke, a cancer survivor who wanted to make a difference in every child diagnosed with cancer. Kick-It brings community, family, friends and co-workers together to raise money for childhood cancer research. The concept is easy—kick the ball, run the bases and score big in the fight against pediatric cancer.

“I am really excited about this new partnership,” said Jeff Gordon. “We are confident this will take childhood cancer to the forefront and bring it the awareness and funding it deserves. I can’t wait to Kick-It in September when I host my won game in Atlanta.

“And, in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month I will be personally matching all funds raised for games played on behalf of the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation during the month of September.”

Additionally, Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation has launched a new social media campaign centered on the Kick-It program called “I’m Kicking-It”. To participate, download the Kick-It sign, write your reason to support the initiative and upload it to the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation Facebook page.

“I’m Kicking-It” campaign will feature people from all walks of life who support the cause, from pediatric cancer patients to professional athletes. Then each week, Gordon will pick his favorite “I’m Kicking It” reason.

“We truly admire Jeff Gordon’s commitment to children with cancer. Our son, Quinn Clarke, founded Kick-It with the dream to raise enough money to find a cure. He is beyond excited that Jeff Gordon is kicking it with him and the 13,500 children diagnosed with cancer every year,” said Allison Clarke, Founder of Flashes of Hope and mother of Quinn Clarke.
