Former Quarter Midget Drivers secure championships in NASCAR Truck Series & NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2025

In a historic culmination of grassroots racing talent rising to the national stage, two former quarter-midget competitors have captured the championships in the 2025 seasons of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series, marking a major milestone for the short-track developmental ranks.

 

 

In the Truck Series, rising star Corey Heim (formerly a standout in quarter-midget competition) clinched the 2025 title after a season of dominant performance, including multiple wins, poles and consistent top-ten finishes. Heim out of GA raced quarter midgets growing up, moving quickly into NASCAR higher ranks all leading to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion in 2025.

 

Corey began racing quarter midgets at a young age, competing in local and regional events. Like many professional NASCAR drivers, these early experiences taught him car control, racecraft, and discipline behind the wheel. After success in quarter midgets, he moved up through Legends cars, Super Late Models, and ARCA Menards Series competition. Heim has since become a standout in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, driving for TRICON Garage (Toyota) and earning multiple wins, poles, and championship contention.

 

 

Simultaneously, in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series (formerly called the Xfinity Series), Jesse Love, whose early career also began in quarter-midgets, secured the 2025 driver’s championship. Love, who is NASCAR's youngest champion, raced quarter midgets early on in his career, followed by USAC Midgets, legend cars, and others.

 

Jesse Love started racing quarter midgets at around age five, competing in the Baylands Quarter Midget Association in Northern California. He quickly stood out for his speed and consistency, winning numerous races and championships at a young age. His success in quarter midgets set the stage for rapid advancement through the ranks of youth motorsports — including USAC Midgets, Micro Sprints, and Late Models. Love went on to become one of the youngest winners and champions in the ARCA Menards Series, and by 2024–2025, he was racing full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series with Richard Childress Racing.

Both drivers trace their roots back to the quarter-midget arena — the small, high-performance cars young racers pilot on short oval tracks. That foundation of wheel-control, car-placement and race-craft has proven invaluable at the national levels of stock-car competition.

 

Their ascents underscore the effectiveness of grassroots racing as a pipeline to NASCAR’s national series: the discipline required, early exposure to competitive environments, and the mental toughness developed in quarter-midget competition have served them well through late models, regional series, and ultimately to full-time rides in NASCAR’s upper tiers.

Quarter-midget racing — involving small, open-wheel cars for youth drivers ages roughly five to sixteen — has long served as a training ground for mechanics of racing: throttle control, car handling, overtaking skills, and race strategy. About NASCAR Youth Racing

NASCAR Youth Series is the sanctioning body for the quarter midget racing division of the United States Auto Club (USAC). Quarter midget racing has been around since before World War II. It is a family-oriented motorsport that involves children ages 5-16 racing in specially-prepared cars. The cars, rules and safety procedures are designed specifically for kids. Quarter midget racing is divided into 14 classes/divisions. Kids typically race on oval tracks approximately 1/20th of a mile long. The surface of these tracks are dirt, concrete or asphalt.

The NASCAR Foundation Partners with Martinsville Speedway for Third-Annual Speediatrics Fun Day Festival

On Friday, April 9th, The NASCAR Foundation partnered with Martinsville Speedway to host its third-annual Speediatrics Fun Day Festival with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Blue Ridge, providing special programming for children at its Uptown and Center Club sites.

 

This NASCAR-themed Speediatrics Fun Day Festival is the culminating event after a 2-week program designed to inspire more than 100 children to lead a healthy lifestyle. In addition to learning about healthy living habits through the lens of NASCAR, children participated in NASCAR-themed field day activities such as a Goodyear Tire Race, Champ’s Looking for Lug Nuts, Chase’s Sponge Relay, Safety Sam’s Stop & Go Relay and Pit Stop Pete’s Puzzling Placement to encourage them to stay active while having fun.

 

“We love partnering with Martinsville Speedway in this community and we couldn’t think of a more impactful way to reach area children than supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Blue Ridge,” said Nichole Krieger, The NASCAR Foundation Executive Director. “Our Speediatrics Fun Day Festivals are really such a fun way for us to connect with children and help communicate the importance of their overall health and wellness.”

 

The festival is one of eight events to be held in race markets across the country as part of The NASCAR Foundation’s Speediatrics Children’s Fund, a program that supports needs expressed by hospitals, specialty clinics, camps, and others providing children’s medical and healthcare services.

As part of the two-week programming provided, students attending Boys & Girls Clubs of the Blue Ridge participated in a video call on April 6 with Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell and NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Jeb Burton. On Thursday, the Martinsville Speedway pace car was on display at the club locations and the children decorated a welcome banner that will be displayed at the speedway this weekend during the Blue-Emu Maximum Pain Relief 500 NASCAR Cup Series race.

 

“Thank you to The NASCAR Foundation for once again bringing its Speediatrics Fun Day Festival to the Martinsville area,” said Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell. “It is so much fun working with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Blue Ridge and spending time with the next generation of NASCAR fans.”

 

In the days following the event, the kids will participate in a step challenge using pedometer watches from The NASCAR Foundation’s Speediatrics Fit Kits made possible by a generous donation from the Harvest Youth Board. The NASCAR Foundation will also provide a financial grant to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Blue Ridge to further fund their efforts for kids.

NASCAR and Boys & Girls Clubs of America announced a multiyear partnership Sunday that will support the nonprofit’s mission of enabling and enriching the lives of young people. As the Official Youth Community Partner of NASCAR, Boys & Girls Clubs of America will work with NASCAR and industry stakeholders to engage more than 4.6 million youth and teens across the country with NASCAR content and experiences.

Partnership efforts will build on the continuing work of The NASCAR Foundation to advance children’s well-being, including ongoing relationships with several Boys & Girls Clubs across the country.

Eric Shanks, CEO and executive producer of FOX Sports, and Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, are both members of the non-profit’s Board of Governors. Shanks attended Boys & Girls Clubs as a youth and is now a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs Alumni Hall of Fame. Next month, Lazarus will serve as chair of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Annual Conference.

History Through the Lens of NASCAR

Free Virtual Summer Camp for Grades 7th Plus

Each year, 20 million families rely on summer camps as a way to fill the days with engaging and educational activities. But with no end in sight to U.S. social distancing, this year’s traditional summer camps are much less likely to open or have already closed.

Even if social distancing restrictions loosen, many parents will continue to be concerned about exposing their kids to large groups.

Varsity Tutors will be hosting a "Virtual Summer Camp" starting on Monday (June 1st) through the end of August. Each half-day camp will be a week-long, with interactive enrichment-based classes. Plus, they'll be completely free!

One of the more unique classes is: History Through the Lens of NASCAR, which is designed for grades Seventh (7th) through Twelfth (12th). 

In the class, students will learn about the origins of #NASCAR racing and how the evolution of the sport parallels and even leads to changes in American history and culture. Students will learn about the cities that host speedways, the improvements in technology that have made racing faster and safer, and the growth of the sport and its business into its unique place in American culture today.

#NASCAR’s Racing Wallace Family

The Wallace Racing Family is at least three generations long.

Its patriarch Russ Wallace raced in Missouri. His sons are Rusty, Kenny and Mike. In the 1970s, the sons were getting old enough to race the cars themselves.

Russell William "Rusty" Wallace Jr. (born August 14, 1956)

It started with the oldest son, Rusty. Rusty took over where his father left off. From 1974 to 1978, he was one of the most successful drivers in the Midwest, winning more than two hundred races before moving up the ranks of professional racing.

He has won the 1984 NASCAR Cup series Rookie of the Year and the 1989 NASCAR Winston Cup Champion. Over the years, Wallace has been inducted in the NASCAR Hall of Fame (2013), the International Motorsports Hall of Fame (2013), the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (2014)[3] and the National Motorsports Press Association Hall of Fame (2010).

Michael Samuel Wallace (born March 10, 1959)

Brother Mike took a different path to NASCAR success by beginning his racing career on dirt tracks. He dominated the dirt track circuit before graduating to asphalt like his older brother.

Wallace made his Busch Series debut in 1990 at the season-closing Winston Classic at Martinsville Speedway. Starting 24th, Wallace finished sixth.

Mike raced in one hundred and ninety-seven (197) cups races between 1991 and 2015. He recorded three top five finishes.

Kenneth Wallace (born August 23, 1963)

Kenny started his career working on cars but decided to jump behind the wheel one night at the Illinois Street Stock State Championship. He won his very first race but took his time becoming a full-time driver. He continued working as a crew expert until the late 1980s when he made the transition to full-time driving.

He retired from NASCAR after a 2015 Xfinity Series race at Iowa, where he competed in the No. 20 Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing in a one race deal. In a career spanning twenty-five years in NASCAR, Wallace had nine wins, all occurring in the Xfinity Series. Now retired from NASCAR competition, he continues to race on local dirt tracks across the country as a hobby.

As for generation three: Rusty has a son named Steve and Mike has a daughter named Crissy who also raced.

Mitchell is an eleven-year-old who loves NASCAR, everything Petty, and Bubba Wallace! He goes to lots of NASCAR races with his dad and always make posters to show support for his driver, Bubba Wallace, driver of the #43 and his team, Richard Petty Motorsports. 

For the Darlington race, Bubba drove a throwback scheme, designed to honor Adam Petty's win in the ARCA series, and the sponsor of the car, Victory Junction Camp. Mitchell made the poster in honor of Adam Petty, his legacy, and the camp.

1) Mitchell, why did you make this poster?

Answer: To support Bubba Wallace and Richard Petty Motorsports. In memory of and honor of Adam Petty because of how good of a person he was. I am just happy Bubba got to drive that car.

2) Mitchell, why do you want to auction this poster off?

Answer: Because that is what Adam Petty would do. He would donate money to Victory Junction and he would do everything he could to make kids smile and I think something I dedicated to him should help a camp he wanted to make. I am just happy that my poster is gonna go for money that I can donate to get somebody to go to camp. My goal is to try to do the same thing that Adam would do. I want to be able to help that camp. 3) Why is Victory Junction special to you?

Answer: Because it is Adam Petty's legacy. It is what he wanted to make. I have been to Victory Junction Camp twice (not as a camper). When I was there I felt proud to be a 43 fan and to know about Adam Petty. It is a special place, just for kids who might not be able to go to camps like 4h or other camps I can go to.

4) What makes Adam Petty special to you?

Answer: He was just a great person. Everything he did for everybody was remarkable. There are not many people like that and I think that's pretty awesome.

Darlington marked Mitchell's 7th NASCAR race of the season and his 7th #43 poster this season. He makes them all for Bubba Wallace and the #43 team. He wanted to give the poster to the camp, but I made the suggestion that he auction it off for proceeds to go to Victory Junction Camp. He jumped all over it. He is so excited! His goal is no small one. He wants to raise enough money to send one camper to camp ($1,500-$2,500!). While I understand he likely won't reach his goal, I hope we can raise some funds for Victory Junction and some exposure as well! Mitchell's Dad

Adam Petty

Adam Kyler Petty was an American professional racing driver. He was the fourth generation from the Petty family to drive in races in the highest division of NASCAR racing. He is believed to be the first fourth-generation athlete in all of modern American professional sports.

Tragically, on May 12, 2000, in a practice session for the Busch 200 race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Petty's throttle stuck wide open going into turn three, causing the car to hit the outside wall virtually head on. Petty was killed instantly when he suffered a basilar skull fracture. He was just nineteen years old.

The Petty family founded Victory Junction in honor of their son and to honor his dream of helping children.

Young NASCAR Fans are the Winners

By allowing children in the garage and younger teens behind the wheel, it’s clear NASCAR wants a youth movement. In fact, kids thirteen and under are just ten dollars ($10) with a paying adult in most grandstands for Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races and FREE with a paying adult to Qualifying and Xfinity series races.

This weekend race winners augmented that dedication to the younger fans. 

Christopher Bell

NASCAR Xfinity Series’ Christopher Bell drives the No. 20 Toyota Supra for Joe Gibbs Racing.  Bell led 238 of 250 laps, a career-high for a single race, to win at Richmond and advance to the next round of the Xfinity Series Playoffs. 

He then gave his winning checkered flag to a boy decked out in Christopher Bell attire.

Martin Truex Jr

Martin Truex Jr., who drives the No. 19 Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing survived a spin to win the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup season's second race at Richmond, taking his second victory in a row and his sixth this year. He was leading with 87 laps remaining when Ricky Stenhouse Jr., running on fresher tires, spun him out.

After the race, an elated Truex Jr. presented a youngster wearing a t-shirt that mirrored the driver’s race suit his winning checkered flag.

Country music artist Jake Owen, a Florida native, grew up going to the Daytona 500.

“It’s a big deal for everyone whether you’re a Floridian or not,” he said. “I definitely came as a kid.”

Owen – whose 2013 hit “Beachin’” features Daytona Beach and its music video contains shots of the Boardwalk – performed the pre-race concert before the Daytona 500.

Annual Charlotte Event Raises Money for Charity

Girls, have at it! When racing returns to Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 8th, the ladies of #NASCAR will add their own element of speed, danger and fun to Bank of America 500 Week when they take to the front stretch quarter-mile for the third annual Better Half Dash on Bojangles' Pole Night.

In this race for charity, each participant raised money prior to the event, with the highest-earner winning the opportunity to pick her starting spot for the race.
